Linda Ahearn

Artist Statement
I have been making art professionally for 30 years. Opening Toscana Studio and Gallery, art school and fine art gallery now in its 15th year, has allowed me to hone my skills and develop techniques which inform my figurative work. I love working with the human form through 2-d and 3-d media. I try to evoke a sense of place in my characters, either regional, historical or otherwise. I pay
a great deal of
attention to detail in my work and thoroughly enjoy the process of bringing a piece to life. I paint and sculpt from life primarily, teach both painting and sculpture to children as well as adult. As I hire many
professional artists to teach at my facility, we hold many calls to artists and offer a valuable service to the art community in Oro Valley and Tucson.

My ultimate goal is to work more in the public art arena and market my bronzes on a national scale through galleries and public art calls.

Medium: Pottery

I create functional stoneware and porcelain in my home studio in a relatively rural area of Tucson where I am inspired daily by the beauty of the desert. My work with clay began as a serious hobby in the mid-70s when I discovered a love of making and using functional pottery.

I was taught by my mother to draw and use watercolor as a young child and this influence can be seen in some of the designs I employ today on my pottery. I take pride in making pottery that is well balanced and pleasing to the eye and touch.

Geometrics
Medium: Mixed Media

My artwork is driven by the depth of the inspirational moment and the recognition of the beauty of creating work that may surprise and evoke another-worldliness. I have a dynamic unease within that compels me to explore contrasting and complementing mediums and materials.

My "Geometric" series delves into the nature of paradigms as geometrical planes crossing one another. The colors contrast with the rigid hard-edge nature of the work giving a sense of containment in a world of endless floating possibilities.

Much of my work depicts a cross-cultural vision ranging from my native Argentina to the places I have visited and appreciated and celebrate the amazing diversity of cultures through their architecture used for meditation or reflection.

In contrast, my metal animals and collages represent an inner desire to strike a balance between the juxtaposition of the peculiar with the essence of structural functionality. They often are a metamorphosis of strange pieces that become legs or parts of a mythical animal and in the construction of such, I find myself in search of homeostasis.

I enjoy the challenge of using diverse materials like wood, glass, recycled metal, and odd found objects, focusing on shape, color, and function.
