Artists 2019 Tour

Linda Ahearn

Picture
The Rancher
Medium: Oil painting and Bronze Sculpture

II have been oil painting for 44 years and have a particular interest in figurative art. I began sculpting 35 years ago, and find both sculpting and painting are integral in my artistic process. I prefer realistic and somewhat narrative themes with much emphasis on Southwestern and Native American histories as I am a native Arizonan.

I teach both painting and sculpting to adults and children at Toscana Studio which I founded 13 years ago. There, artists converge to learn new techniques from various instructors, as well as having a place to showcase their work at Toscana Gallery.

The gallery represents a multitude of styles and genres of original art, and has calls to artists each year. I am completely immersed in art.

After 48 years of working in clay, "Clay as Art", is my goal and inspiration. The human figure, images from nature, as well as animal forms fascinate my imagination.

Andrea Edmundson

Picture
Garden Nirvana

Medium: Mosaics

My mosaics are messages about consumerism and creativity: We (I) have too much stuff. Most stuff does not need to be thrown away; a lot can be recycled, re-used, or re-purposed. Thus, I create art with stuff. The unique colors and shapes of my stuff (what I call ‘bling’) inspire and delight me.

My goal is to inspire and delight others with my mosaics while proposing that we can all be more with less.

Medium: Acrylic, Watercolor, Clay, Bronze, Photography

I work in a variety of mediums and love the challenge of learning new techniques. I'm an artist with a background of marine biology, and that biology sometimes pops up in my work.

The most recent foray is into the world of colored pencils. As a docent for Tohono Chul Park, I'm working on displaying the ways the oceans affect - and even create conditions resulting in our desert, hence the series of tide zone animals from Puerto Penasco, which shares our Sonoran Desert with us.

I create functional stoneware and porcelain in my home studio in a relatively rural area of Tucson where I am inspired daily by the beauty of the desert. My work with clay began as a serious hobby in the mid-70s when I discovered a love of making and using functional pottery.

I was taught by my mother to draw and use watercolor as a young child and this influence can be seen in some of the designs I employ today on my pottery. I take pride in making pottery that is well balanced and pleasing to the eye and touch.

Nature Intertwined
Medium: Mixed

I have been making pine needle basket art for over 10 years, but recently have been combining natural elements and handcrafted pottery to my pieces.

I feel the real beauty of my pieces is in the coiled centers or the natural elements. From there the coiling continues and takes on an adventure of its own. This can be done by using a variety of stitches, wrappings and maneuvering the coils into unique shapes.

Each piece, whether small or large, is one of a kind.
