Artists 2019 Tour
Linda Ahearn
Medium: Oil painting and Bronze Sculpture
II have been oil painting for 44 years and have a particular interest in figurative art. I began sculpting 35 years ago, and find both sculpting and painting are integral in my artistic process. I prefer realistic and somewhat narrative themes with much emphasis on Southwestern and Native American histories as I am a native Arizonan. I teach both painting and sculpting to adults and children at Toscana Studio which I founded 13 years ago. There, artists converge to learn new techniques from various instructors, as well as having a place to showcase their work at Toscana Gallery. The gallery represents a multitude of styles and genres of original art, and has calls to artists each year. I am completely immersed in art. My goal is to inspire and delight others with my mosaics while proposing that we can all be more with less. I work in a variety of mediums and love the challenge of learning new techniques. I'm an artist with a background of marine biology, and that biology sometimes pops up in my work. The most recent foray is into the world of colored pencils. As a docent for Tohono Chul Park, I'm working on displaying the ways the oceans affect - and even create conditions resulting in our desert, hence the series of tide zone animals from Puerto Penasco, which shares our Sonoran Desert with us. This can be done by using a variety of stitches, wrappings and maneuvering the coils into unique shapes. Each piece, whether small or large, is one of a kind.
